Concepts are the beginning of everything. It could be as simple as a thumbnail or as complicated as a poster sized sketch. My sketching involves a subtractive process that usually involves a completely black surface. Always starting in a void and trying to construct a readable image. Here are a few examples of commissions and other works. Some are complete and some still need to be flushed out. It’s always an incredible journey of self expression.
Lily and Leo the Lion
A concept piece for a children’s book. Lily and the lion starts with a tea party and ends with a strong relationship with a compassionate lion named Leo.
Tales of the Trident: Daughters of Poseidon
Developing a story that involves the gods can be a little complex. My concept involves three daughters of Poseidon. The main idea is to explore the possibilities and strengths of women in mythology. Each daughter represents a spire of the powerful trident of Poseidon. Each daughter brings a special ability to the powers of the seas.
Tales of the Trident: Tristen
One of three daughters of Poseidon, Tristen represents the shorelines of the seas. She oversees the protection of the alcoves and cliff shores of the mighty waters. She is the eldest of the three daughters. Exploring the complications of being the oldest daughter, she confronts the responsibilities with confidence and strength.
Coloring Book Promo
This concept is a promotional tool for my coloring book series ‘Other Worlds’. The idea was to introduce a variety of characters from the series.
